the first release is always a big milestone for any label. in our case the first one (astrac ep) is also a long anticipated one, the title track waiting to be released for a long time. so far there is nothing ordinary about ztrls career as he had a big fan base without a single release or a dj gig. as a result of his ongoing inspiration by ricardo villalobos and encouragement from a:rpia:r s petre inspirescu among others he sharpened his producer skills which yielded astrac ep, another 2013 release on pluie/noir recordings compilation (pluie/noir year one) and an independent release on soul.on records titled >soul two< which was also remixed by the hungarian laurine frost. on top of his producer activity hes an avid record collector and a regular guest on uks rejam radio show, hes also done a podcast mix for the romanian nightclubber webzines unknown 500 series.

a few words by steffen bennemann: i was in loose contact with aggelos (dream weapons) for a few years, watching him from a distant with great interest. in 2012, he sent me his debut lp on inner ear under his fantastikoi hxoi moniker and it quickly became my favourite album of the year. when i told him our plans for holger he sent me some of his more electronic leaning music. i was instantly captured by the driving, trippy kraut techno songs which show homage to the psychedelic sounds of the 60s and 70s while holding their own in the here and now. exactly our cup of tea.

alexander kowalski is someone you should know. not only is he a resident artist at our club, but with uncountable eps and several albums on heiko laux label kanzleramt and others, he has contributed more to electronic music than many others. to have a separate platform for the darker and harder productions of his, he created the alias d_func. a while ago. when he approached us with the tracks that are now on the record in hand, we immediately fell in love with the mills-like energy of them. perfect drum programming, driving synth lines two perfect tools for any proper techno set. the dirt mix of revalism which is included in the digital release package puts the original in a more modern jacket with its stompy beat – another proof of how well alexander knows what the djs need to please their crowd.let the dancefloors burn!

chymera returns to ovum with tidal/moot point it has been 7 years since chymeras seminal ovum release umbrella and it only seems fitting that we kick of our 20th anniversary celebration with a new release from the irish producer. since his debut on ovum, chymera aka brendan gregoriy has been busy releasing on lables such as nrk, komplex de deep, cocoon, kompakt, and more.

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics.

for over 12 months thomas feriero aka avatism, our friend and label partner, has been staying at home and working on his album. he moved to berlin to work on it and now sadly (for us) yet (gladly) for him he is moving back to milan. poof! just like that. so what did this year entail exactly? well for some of us not much. we got to see him in his studio comfy pants a couple of times (he wears slippers) we heard his studio woes, ate pasta with him, drank beers and of course got to hear his album at every juncture. while this self-imposed exile may have been a little worrisome the result is fortunately spectacular. adamant is a glimpse into how a city shapes a life and how intrinsically life then shapes music.
